Resident Evil is Zach Cregger’s reboot of the film series, written with Shay Hatten and produced by Constantin Film with PlayStation Productions and Vertigo Entertainment. Sony Pictures releases it. It premiered in Los Angeles on 15 September 2026 and opened in the US on 18 September. The film runs 94 minutes.
Austin Abrams plays Bryan, a medical courier who has to get a package to Raccoon City General Hospital on the night of the outbreak. Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry and Kali Reis play people from Umbrella.
It opened with $60 million in the US and Canada and $108.3 million worldwide, a record for the series. By 27 September 2026 it had grossed $196.5 million on a $75 million budget. Metacritic gives it 79 out of 100, the best score in the franchise.
Outside the US, Sony staggered the release: Wikipedia lists the CIS, Thailand and South Africa for the following weekend and Japan for 9 October. This site does not stream the film; the trailer on the film page is Sony’s official one.
